Viejas Arena

"Everyone here?"
Tom glanced out of his dressing room door into the hallway of Viejas Arena in San Diego Sunday night and smiled.
There, standing in the hallway, were the Heartbreakers - Mike Campbell, Benmont Tench, Ron Blair, Scott Thurston and Steve Ferrone - dressed to kill and ready to take the stage and begin their 36-show North American tour in support of their new critically acclaimed album, Hypnotic Eye.
With flashlights flickering ahead of them, Tom and the band walked quietly down the dark arena hallway, past the loading dock and road cases before stopping just behind the black curtain in the tunnel leading into the arena. Steve Winwood had just finished a fantastic hour-long opening set, and the crowd was electric. Richard Fernandez, the band's long-time tour manager, gave the nod and the arena's house lights dropped. Pulling the curtain back, Fernandez waved the band inside as the standing-room-only Southern California crowd welcomed them onstage with a deafening roar.
