The Gorge

Originally founded as a vineyard in the 1980s, The Gorge Amphitheatre was opened in 1985 with a concert by Jesse Colin Young. Although the founders sold the venue in 1993, grape vines still dot the property today.

Saturday's set may be the show of the tour to date. More than 20,000 fans partied in the campgrounds and parking lots on a cloudless summer day before jamming to soulful set from Joe Cocker. The Heartbreakers followed Cocker's lead and delivered an exhilarating set that kicked off with "King's Highway" and culminated with an anthemic "Refugee," Mike Campbell's custom Rickenbacker ringing out over the Columbia River. The energy from the crowd fueled an absolutely electrifying version of Van Morrison's "Mystic Eyes" for the encore, drummer Steve Ferrone and bassist Ron Blair providing the pummeling beat as Scott Thurston oozed bluesy harmonica over the top.

With four shows in the next seven days, the Heartbreakers are turning things up a notch, so check back at TomPetty.com for more photos, show recaps and some new videos as we play shows in Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg and Saskatoon!

I'm 21 years old, and this was my first Tom Petty + Heartbreakers concert....I was absolutely blown away, it exceeded all of my expectations. Everyone in the band sounded fantastic - truly great musicians. I don't go to concerts very often, but I really wanted to go to this one and I am so glad I did!

this is my first concert at the Gorge- drove 5 hours to experience seeing Tom Petty at the Gorge. Spent $150 per ticket not including the travel costs, hotel etc. Due to problems with ticketmaster my presale tickets could not be purchased until the next day after presale was offered. Missed out on 5th row seats and ended up with 21st row. Had to use willcall for pick up which caused more delays the day of the concert. Arrived at 6:15 at the Gorge and got our tickets. Was herded into a corral of thousands of people , and waited in the hot sun until 8:45 to get into the concert. Missed Joe Cocker completely and by the time we got in was feeling completely exhausted. Someone mentioned in the line up that Tom Petty would never start a concert with thousands of fans on the outside but when we heard Joe Cocker start to play we had to laugh because apparently Tom did not know we were all waiting outside the gates. WTF happened? No staff around to organize the chaos. Finally saw Tom and really enjoyed the show but feel a bit ripped off by missing half of the concert. Any other fans have the same experience? Sorry Tom, love you but you need to know there were a lot of disappointed fans outside.

The two shows at The Gorge were amazing. The band is as tight as they have ever been and turned things up a notch for the second show on Saturday. They are truly enjoying being up there, especially with the new stuff from Mojo. Mike Campbell continues amaze us with his creativity.

You guys really had your mojo going Saturday night! What better way to spend a beautiful summer evening than singing Free Fallin' with Tom and 20,000 of your closest friends? Your music brings people together in almost a spiritual way. Thank you for doing what you do.

Everytime I see Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers I am AWESTRUCK by their staying power..It seems to get stronger each time. I went to the Fri nite show and we had VIP tickets and parking for the first time ever and at my age it was greatly appreciated..Joe Cocker was a class opening act and had a cadillac band along with him..He sounded GREAT..Then here comes Mr, Petty and the Heartbreakers and all heck broke lose..If I would have been thinking I would have tried to get tickets for the Saturday show too.-- I would have got to hear YOU WRECK ME.. Fri was my birthday present and I couldn't have asked for a better one..but it made me want MORE! LOL Looks like they are on to a wonderful road tour ahead..Thankyou for a great show...GOOD JOB
