Philadelphia, PA US

The City of Brotherly Love has always been a music hot bed, dating back to Frankie Avalon and Bill Haley, all the way through Patti LaBelle, the Gamble and Huff songwriting team and the late great Teddy Pendergrass. It has also been the scene of many incredible Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers concerts throughout the years.

Last night, Tom and the guys returned to Philadelphia's Wachovia Center for another sold out show. Just a day after his 74th birthday, blues legend Buddy Guy got the party started early, parading through the crowd on the arena floor while bursts of blues fire emanated from his white Fender Stratocaster.

Buoyed by their stellar Madison Square Garden show, Tom and the Heartbreakers didn't let up in Philadelphia, rocking the sold-out Wachovia Arena. The atmosphere was positively electric tonight and the roar after each song deafening. "Jefferson Jericho Blues" featured some great keys work from Benmont Tench, while "Running Man's Bible" found Tom locking in with Ron Blair and Steve Ferrone. "Good Enough," which is quickly becoming an epic blues gem, saw Benmont and Mike trading licks on the organ and guitar respectively.

Night two in Philly is up next- last show of the second leg of the Mojo Summer 2010 tour!

Remember to check back for more photos, videos and recaps from the tour!

Sound Control!
I will admit at my shows I thought there were a few songs where his voice was too quiet compared to the band! For that I will say boo on the sound man! In 2008 I did not have a problem it was amazing! But I still may think that june 11th 2010 may have been the best damn tom petty and the heartbreakers show I have ever seen!!!! But anyway yeah sound man, cmon bro haha just barely off! Anyway its tom and the hb's, no one is as cool of a band or as good of a band in my personal opinion. But gotta make sure that sound is right I remember listening to Free Fallin, a song I absolutely love along with almost every other song hes ever written and a few times I couldnt hear his singin, and I dont wanna sing his songs! I want to sing along with him you know haha only the man himself can sing his songs best, nobody can succesfully cover a Petty song.. Not to me! Haha

Still Tingling
At the July 31 show, I sat in the third row on the floor dead center, and I can't stop thinking how lucky I was to be so close to Tom Petty. He and the Heartbreakers can still rock and I was up and dancing for the whole show. This concert was amazing and an experience I will never forget.

Only Ok
I have to admit that I was a little disappointed in the length. We only got 17 songs. I was looking through other dates and they had 18. Now I know I shouldn't be making a big deal about 1 song, but when my 200 level tickets came to around 90 each after all the b.s. fees I have a right to complain I think. The songs they did play were awesome though. I didn't think Tom's vocals were bad at all. I have to admit though, Buddy Guy was the highlight of the night. For an old guy he can still rock. Next time they come around I will be a little reluctant to attend, because by then I'll be paying over $100 a seat for the 200 level and I am sure we'll get 15 songs because the band will be older and won't be able to play as long.

Sound Disappointment - 07/31
I have seen many TP&THB shows and they all have been fantastic BUT the 07/31 show was a major disappointment in the audio department. I am glad to read (here) that other fans were also disappointed in the poor sound engineer work. Both Buddy Guy and Tom Petty's vocals were "muddy" and too low the entire night. If all shows sounded that bad I wouldn't go to a live shows there. I was sitting/standing in Section 107 which is always a sweet spot for audio at Wachovia. Believe me I have heard many shows from this location and it is always quality!

My first Petty concert!
I loved it. Amazing. Here's a photo I took.

fan
The July 31 concerts was such a disappointment compared to 2 years ago. The sound man should be fired. Couldn't clearly hear Petty's voice - the music and back up drowned him out. Number and selection of songs also disappointing. I always try to go to their concerts... will think twice next time. Pretty expensive for such a mish mash of sound.

HONEY BEE!!
I just can't believe it! My all time favorite song, Honey Bee. Loved the way you sang it. The concert rocked. See you and the Heart Breakers in Saratoga. You never let us down. Karen

Tom Petty Rocks!
This is the 7th time we've seen Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and they never disappoint! Sat in the center of the 3rd row. Amazing seats and incredible concert! Can't wait to see them again!

Was great, but 2008's was even better
Was at the Sat nite show and agree - TP & THB were excellent. I've never seen Buddy Guy before and have to say - "Wow!" - that was one heck of an energetic act! Saw TP in Newark back in June 2008 @ Pru Center which I'd say was an all-time best. My one observation was that TP seemed a little more lethargic this time than what I remember from the '08 show. Seemed more like going through the motions versus tons of energy, passion and engagement I recall. Maybe its cuz a tour is such a grueling pace to maintain. But hey, we're _all_ getting old... :P 20th row seats on the floor were excellent! Buddy Guy walked right behind us when he strode out into the crowd.

Petty's vocal way too low
Band sounded great, but Tom's vocals were BARELY audible at times. The show was a bit short,I could have used another 20 min or so. The Mojo songs are much better live than on the cd,these tunes will reappear on future tours and deservedly so. Still enjoyed myself, but this was not as good as the other 9 Petty shows I've seen mostly because of the vocals being way too low

Too short and predictable
Buddy Guy was awesome and TP&THB were excellent as well. However, the set list leaves a LOT to be desired and the show was the shortest I've ever seen (a little over 90 min) The stage wasn't really up to past standards either. I don't mean to bitch, it was a fun night, but for the ca$h charged I think we were entitled to a little more.

Philly
my umpteenth Petty show, goin on 32 years...great seats...10th row but this time it was SOOO loud that it drowned out Toms voice (same seats in 2008 but sound quality was much better then)...Overall great show, Buddy Guy was tearin' it up out in the audience, and the Heartbreakers rocked it out as usual- and they all actually looked like they were having a good time! I know we were~....wish I had tix tonight as well...OH WELL

VIP Parking
I posted once but did not show up. So sorry if it ends up on here twice. The whole VIP thing with Comcast Tix has been a nightmare! But I called the box office yesterday to inquire about the VIP parking and was told that each parking attendant around the Wachovia Center will have a list with each name of the person on the VIP Package and you will need to show ID.
angelk - 26 July, 2010
VIP Package
Did anyone get parking for Wachovia Center shows that was to be included with VIP Package? I was told about a month ago one per order not per package and I would be contacted 1-2 weeks prior to show, but I have not heard anything since. This experience with the Package very frustrating compared to last time.

7/31 Rapidly Approaching!
Looking froward to the show in Philly. Bringing my 2 oldest boys (18 & 16) who are both huge fans! It's the 18 yo's HS graduation present so we'll be in front row! The 16 yo is a guitarist & can play numerous Heartbreaker songs...he idolizes Mike Campbell & is freaking at the chance to see him upclose. We're bring a busload down from Scranton,PA for the show...See you there.....

We vote for "The Waiting"..saw you perform "Girl On LSD" last time through Philly...amazing!

More New Music!
I'm hoping the band plays at least half the new album. Most fans have seen them many times before, not to mention DVD's, heavy radio play, etc. The setlist will have plenty of hits, but Mojo is their strongest new album in years and deserves to be showcased. Try something new!
tompettythelastdj - 20 July, 2010
More Hits!
Mojo is a great album, but the band has to play more of the classics than the new album.... agree?
freefallinstew - 18 July, 2010
Worst Experience
Yout tixs will be at will call. You should have gotten the new cd,download codes and coupon code already. The poster is not ready yet( that is what Petty's website says) keep e-mailing comcast& Petty..hope this helps

Worst Experience
I purchased the VIP tickets but have yet to receive any of the stated merchadise. I can't seem to get any help from Ticketmaster nor Wachovia Center. All I am getting is the runaround. My biggest fear is that I am driving 7 hours to see TP - will I have tickets when I arrive?!?
