Red Rocks Amphitheater
Denver, CO US

Opening night of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' Summer 2010 tour! The band certainly did not disappoint the sold-out crowd at the majestic Red Rocks Amphitheatre outside of Denver, CO.

Joe Cocker began the festivities with a breezy and inspired set of hits including "Unchain My Heart," "With a Little Help from My Friends," "Feelin' Alright" and a cover of The Beatles' "Come Together," which he recorded for 2007's Hymn for My Soul.

The excitement and anticipation at Red Rocks was undeniable as the Heartbreakers struck the first notes of tonight's opener, "Kings Highway," off Into The Great Wide Open. The guys tore through classics "Mary Jane's Last Dance" and "Breakdown" before surprising fans with a blazing version of the rare "Driving Down to Georgia" off the recently released The Live Anthology. Scott's wicked harmonica riff helped kick start "Jefferson Jericho Blues," which began a string of songs from Mojo, due out June 15. The capacity crowd was treated to live debuts of "First Flash of Freedom," "Running Man's Bible," "I Should Have Known It," and "Good Enough," all of which promise to be strong staples on this summer's tour. Wrapping up the set with "Refugee," Tom and the Heartbreakers returned to the stage and treated the audience to an intense triple-encore of "You Wreck Me," "Mystic Eyes," and the finale "Runnin' Down a Dream."

Check out the photos from last night and stay tuned for updates, photos, and more from every night of the tour. It's going to be a fun summer!

Rocking the Rocks
I just learned how to post... But flew to Red Rocks from Los Angeles rented car, stayed at motel to see this amazing show. The view was breath-taking Joe Cocker was wonderful. The minute Tom Petty and the Hearbreakers came on the stage.. it was all worth everything. Their new songs were dreamy and southern blues.. their standards never disappoint. Can't wait for October at the Hollywood Bowl

1st off Red Rocks was absolutely the best place I have ever been to see a show...between the beautiful setting and awesome sound. Very grateful Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were who I got to see and on opening night to boot...can't get any better than that!!! Joe was great...like a good wine only gets better with time. As usual you guys ROCKED!!!!! Much love!!!! ;D

Excellent!
This was my 4th time seeing The Heartbreakers. The first was when they toured with their second album. It was also my first visit to Red Rocks. The show, the weather and venue were all wonderful. Since I'm a whiny brat, I'll just say the the only disappointment was that I couldn't choose the songs. I would have loved "Even the Losers", "Complex Kid", "Saving Grace", and my absolute favorite song "The Waiting". I'm sure those guys could have played for another 8 hours and I still wouldn't have heard enough. On a side note, if anyone can, please make the inside photo of the Mojo CD available as a wall poster. It's one classy picture.

Keep up the Mojo
Sounds like a good show and its great to see Tom and the Heartbreakers playing a lot of songs from their new album! Hopefully he keeps it up. Maybe even switch a few 'greatest hit' tunes for something from the 'Last DJ' album as well....

Opening night @ Red Rocks
Kudos to Tom and tha band on another great show! I wouldn't expect any less. The highlight of the night was very unexpected, I thought American Girl was starting out only to find the band playing "Drivin Down to Georgia"! Not many artists would do that and yet I thought that was the best move. Fans want to hear the hits but if its only the same hits we don't get to enjoy those fabulous songs in the middle that become our favorites! I mean I love the Stones but if I have to sit thru "Satisfaction" one more time (urrgg)...The band is energized again and "Jefferson Jericho and "I Should Have Known It" were great! can't wait for the album and to see the next shows in Omaha, Kansas City and St. Louis! Best American Band bar none!
