Red Rocks Amphitheater
Denver, CO US

If night two at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, Colorado proved anything, it’s that Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers haven’t lost a step over their illustrious career.

Nearly 30 years to the day since their 1980 Red Rocks debut, Tom and the band brought the rock to Red Rocks, digging deep into their catalog right off the bat with “Listen to Her Heart” off You're Gonna Get It!. “Free Fallin’” provided a nice opportunity for an audience sing-a-long before giving way to a killer cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Oh Well.”

Once again, the Red Rocks faithful were treated to several songs off Mojo, the band’s first album in almost eight years due out June 15. Tom and the boys debuted “Takin’ My Time,” while delivering stellar takes of “First Flash Of Freedom,” “Running Man’s Bible” and “I Should Have Known It,” and “Good Enough.”

“Runnin’ Down a Dream” and “You Wreck Me” got the encore off to a sizzling start, but the “American Girl” finale was the perfect send-off to another sold-out night at one of the most beautiful and acoustically amazing venues in the world.

Prior to the Heartbreakers, Joe Cocker once again delivered a winning set that included a fantastic “You Can Keep Your Hat On” and culminated with an epic version of “With a Little Help from My Friends” that had the masses on their feet.

Mystical
Partly the venue, partly the new revitalized attitude... truly transcendent. I agree with those who feel there should be some live releases from this show. Hurry back!

THE BEST!!!
We've seen Petty at Red Rocks many times before, at the Pepsi Center (not the greatest venue), and Snowmass/Jass Aspen. June 3rd at RR was by far the best I've ever heard TP&HB sound flow. They were tight, the music was more than heard, it was felt ... deep. The MOJO release is great, but the way the music was mixed and the combination of Red Rocks acoustics was just amazing. I hope they consider putting some of the live recordings from this concert on a future album. Tom and Hearbreakers, you've outdone yourself! Stop over for dinner anytime :)

Best show I've seen
at least since the last show Gorge, 2008. I can't wait until tomorrow, when My wife and I return to the Gorge once again, for my second T.P. show in 9 days....Tonya, I sure enjoyed Colorado, and can't wait to visit again.

I wanted to say thank you!!
My name is Tonya Richardson...I wanted to show my appreciation for coming to Colorado...but not just because of the show...But for another reason.

I have a brother who lives in Oregon....who is going to your show at the Gorge...but when he learned you were playing at Red Rocks near me...he and his friend decided to take a nice long road trip...which included several states before he got to Colorado...

I had not seen my brother in about 12 years...we had a great time together...and our last night together was spent together at the concert...something I will remember forever.

I have seen many concerts over the years...most in Portland Ore....this was my first Red Rocks concert....I was blown away....the concert was great.

Thank you for bringing me and my brother together :)

Like going to church
I was moved during this show like no other TP show before ... maybe it was Red Rocks, maybe it was the excitement of it being only the second show of his tour ... I don't know. But this time around the beauty of his songs really touched me. Simple, heartfelt, authentic. Perfectly structured, exquisitely played. He and the band left me amazed, impressed and yeah, teary-eyed. The Mojo songs are terrific ... edgy, raw, gritty. The double lead on First Flash of Freedom is tremendous (Allman-y, I dare say) and Campbell's playing on these songs (and the entire set) was incendiary. If I could quit my day job and tour with the band, I would. OK, gotta go. got band practice ... gotta make some noise. I'm so inspired. Thanks guys. You broke my heart again ... in the best way possible. xo
