Pengrowth Saddeldome
Calgary, AB CA

Mojo hit record stores worldwide on Tuesday, and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers celebrated with an incendiary show of hits and new songs at Calgary’s Saddledome.

Host to the annual Stampede every July, Calgary is located on the prairie at the foothills of the Canadian Rockies and is the largest city in Alberta Province. Built in 1983 in time to host events for the 1988 Winter Olympics, the Saddledome is home to the Calgary Flames and first hosted a concert in 1983 featuring the Moody Blues. Rod Stewart has played the Saddledome eleven times, the most of any performer in venue history.

Joe Cocker and his band got the night started with a bang with “Feelin’ Alright,” but the highlight of their set was a raucous “You Can Leave Your Hat On” that got the Saddledome crowd up on its feet and moving early.

Ten thousand strong flicked lighters and sang along as Tom and the guys pulled off a beautiful version of “Free Fallin’” at the outset of their two-hour-plus set. “I Won’t Back Down” scorched, Tom sneering the classic chorus backed by a thundering drumbeat from Steve Ferrone. Tom introduced the band before Scott Thurston and Mike Campbell ripped into the opening of “Jefferson Jericho Blues,” a new song off Mojo inspired in part by our nation’s third president and his dalliances with Sally Hemmings. Highlights following the Mojo segment of the show included “Don’t Come Around Here No More” and “Refugee.” We’re over two weeks into the tour now and looking forward to tonight’s show in Edmonton!

Wow
I loved Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers in high school and god love 'em I appreciate them even more now. Damn they're great! I bought tickets to the concert as soon as I heard they were coming to Calgary and stuck the tickets to my fridge with a magnet. My 25 year old daughter came over for dinner one night and the first thing she said was, "You're bringing me to the concert, right?" That there says how their music transcends. As much as I loved hearing their classics, the new music was fabulous. The only thing I can say is... WOW. They just keep getting better and better. What can I say except... thank you!

Where's the old stuff?
Was sure hoping to get more than 18 songs, especially with only 3 from the first five classic albums (King's Highway, Breakdown, Refugee).

Heartbreakers kill calgary!
Another fantastic show into the history book at the Dome. A double bill unlikely to be seen as good as this was. Joe Cocker literally poured his sweat and tears into his voice and held nothing back which is gutsy if your 66 years old. His band had to be good to enhance him and they were very hot. Tom and his crew KO'd Calgary last time and seemed prepared for this gig and once again delivered the quality product you have the right to expect for the big money. You can not fool a big crowd so when you hear the audience straining their voices to scream appreciation you feel goose bumps on your skin. Shows of this caliber are increasinly harder to find so this was a sweet performance. it was so cool to hear Tom thank Calgary so many times and finally proclaim to everyone that they wanted to come back real soon and do it again.

A wonderful night!
This band amazes me! Their chemistry is incredible and they sound so great live. I loved everything they played, so much that I wish it could have gone on all night :) My only complaint is that all previous shows had 5 Mojo songs and we were only treated to 4. Thanks for once again creating a great memory that I will treasure.

Unbelievable!
That concert last night was simply incredible. You guys have still got it. The set list was amazing as well, a wonderful blend of the old and the new. The new songs sound like they'll be chart toppers within a matter of moments. Thank you so much, Tom and the 'breakers. I've followed you for many years and have always considered you my favorite band. And Steve, thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving me your drumsticks. I am at a loss for words. I almost feel like we know each other, or that you remember me or something. From the first time you gave them to me in Reno (2005) and then again a few years later in Calgary, and yet again last night. You've made me feel like the luckiest girl in the entire world, and for that, I thank you. Keep it real guys.

Runnin Down A Great Dream!
The best thing about last night was that is was not a dream. It was real...Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers doing what they do best. Playing Rock and Roll with pure integrity, class and superb musicianship. A great mixture of old and fabulos new material that really has "Mojo". What a true joy it was to see this truly classic band. Opening the night with Joe Cocker and his talented and soulful band was the perfect fit. Mr. Cocker is a legend in his own right, who still has the vocal chops. I almost felt like I was at Woodstock! A truly memorable night. Thank you to Tom and the Heartbreakers for coming back to Calgary!

Ready for Magic
Mojo debut night of the tour...hope that '59 Les Paul is tuned and ready to scream...Can't wait to be thrilled by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers yet again...it's been awhile since Vancouver! And I hope a rumour someone whispered is for real, but I find rumours are usually just rumours...
