The celebration of the return of Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers to the stage for the kickoff of their 2012 Tour was dampened a bit on Thursday with the news of the passing of Levon Helm, the legendary drummer for The Band. But in true Heartbreaker fashion, Tom and the band chose not to mourn Helm but to celebrate the incredible life he lived with a powerhouse set of two-plus hours of music that left the sold-out crowd at the 1st Bank Center in Broomfield, CO cheering for more.

"You Wreck Me" and "Here Comes My Girl" also got everyone dancing and singing along early in the set and just as the final notes of "Handle With Care" rang out (which Tom dedicated, "to all those Wilbury guys, wherever they are traveling tonight"), Tom stepped quietly to the microphone to say a few words about Helm.

"We lost a good friend today, Levon Helm," Tom said. "Levon was one of the greatest human beings that ever was and a friend of everyone in this band. We're gonna play this one for him."

The Best of Everything, the album-closing track off Southern Accents, was an apt choice to honor Helm, but one couldn't help but wonder if the Turkey Scratch, Arkansas native might have enjoyed more the monstrous "Something Big" that followed, a bluesy stomper with a driving rhythm thats any drummer's dream.

So when are tickets going to be going on sale? And I saw someone else asked about meet and greet tickets? What are those exactly, because they sound intriguing to me, and how exactly would I get my hands on a couple of those? I'm 18 and a HUGE Tom Petty fan and it has been my dream for 5 or 6 years now to go to one of his concerts, and I'm finally having my dreams come true (= I'm so excited that he'll be in Colorado!

First time I saw Tom Petty in Saratoga Springs, NY, August 13, 2006. All they had left were 20 lawn seat tickets on 8/12 so I decided to buy mine and friends. Thank goodness I did. Over the 6:00 p.m. news that night they announced Tom Petty was SOLD OUT for the next day's concert. It was awesome!!! Went again in August 2010...just as great. Please consider SPAC again on your 2012 Tour.

I had tickets to Petty when he was at Red Rocks 2 years ago. Had a family medical crisis the day of the show and couldn't go and couldn't even unload the tickets, so it was a total loss! I was heartbroken. Now my wait is over. Can't freakin' wait!

It's great your coming to Colorado. I've seen you twice in California, you put on a great show. Can't wait to see you again.

TP and the Heartbreakers is my all time favorite band! I have been to all of your shows in CO except the 2006 Pepsi can show. I attended the first show at the can, Freddy Jones Band. It was so loud my ears rang the next day and I vowed to never see another show at the can. The Fiddlers Green show with the Kebbler's cookie tree was memorable but, due to there high school curfew, I do not attend shows there anymore either. Your best Colorado shows have always been at Red Rocks. I took my now 10 yr. old daughter to her 1st Tom Petty show at Red Rocks in 2010. Do we need to start a petition or FB page to bring TP and the Heartbreakers back to Red Rocks.

I love Tom Petty and my lifelong dream would be to see him play at the Red Rock Ampitheater. I WISH you guys would go back there next year. Last year I already purchased my ticket for Minneapolis then you added the RRA so I couldn't afford to go there too.
