Canadians love Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers.
It doesn’t seem to matter that the band has a song called “American Girl” or name-checks specific American cities and locations in their songs; our friends to the North have a deep love for this music and this band that transcends national borders.
That affection was apparent all day at Rogers Arena, from the fans that waited by the arena’s loading dock starting early in the morning in hopes of catching a glimpse of Tom and the band to the incredible ovation the band received when they took the stage a few minutes after 9 p.m.
“Hello, Vancouver!,” Tom said after nailing an arena-rocking version of “Mary Jane’s Last Dance.” “This is our first stop in Canada on this tour, and we’re so excited to be here!”
