A few minutes prior to show time, Tom stepped out of his dressing room to find Steve Winwood walking back to his bus after hisopening set.

The two old friends stopped to catch up and share a laugh about Lockn andthe weather delay the day before.

"I heard you were playing with Widespread Panic, but there was actual widespread panic out there," Tom said with a laugh. "Everything got alittle crazy for a little while there."

Order was restored Sunday night as the tour hit Darien Lake, one of few outdoor amphitheater shows of the tour. Steve Winwood and band played an outstanding opening set highlighted by a stellar and spooky "Low Spark of High Heeled Boys."

By the time Tom ran into Steve backstage, the standing-room-only crowd at Darien Lake was ready for the Heartbreakers.  "I guess it's getting to be that time," Tom said to Steve as the rest of the Heartbreakers gathered to take the stage. Scott Thurston stood with Benmont Tench, who was celebrating his birthday, while Rob Blair chatted with some of the crew.

"It's a good crowd out there," Steve said to the band. "You boys have fun!"
