  • Summerfest Night 2 Recap

Beyond the stage crew performing basic line checks to ensure that the instruments and equipment onstage are working properly, Tom and the band do not do soundchecks, which makes it all the more impressive when they deliver the kind of awe-inspiring performance like the second night at Milwaukee's Summerfest. These are the moments that remind me just what an amazing band the Heartbreakers are.

Arriving amid rapturous applause from the Summerfest faithful, Tom and the guys tore through the set which played like a soundtrack to the last quarter century: "Refugee," "Don't Come Around Here No More," "Free Fallin'," "ou Don't Know How It Feels", "I Won't Back Down," "American Girl," "Learning to Fly," "Breakdown"Njthe list just goes on and on. How many concerts do you attend where you know 90 percent of the lyrics to most of the songs played?

Even the new songs from Mojo have begun to work themselves into the hearts of Heartbreakers fans. "Good Enough" returned to the rotation in Milwaukee after a two-week hiatus, having been played last at The Gorge in Washington. Led by Mike Campbell's gritty guitar work, "Good Enough" is a searing blues rocker that is sure to make more appearances in the set lists as the tour progresses. For the second time this tour, Tom dusted off "Don't Pull Me Over," a reggae jammer that elicited clouds of smoke and howls of approval from Marcus Amphitheater.
