Target Center, Minneapolis, MN
Twenty-one concerts may seem like a lot, but time tends to fly in Heartbreaker land.
That's right where we stood Saturday night at a standing-room-only crowd at the Target Center in Minneapolis where Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers wrapped up their 2013 Summer Tour, one final performance before heading back to California for down time before returning to the studio to complete work on an as-yet unnamed album to be released next year.
As the last notes of The Smithereens' opening set rang out across the Target Center, Tom and the guys gathered in a backstage hallway, laughing with friends and thanking crew members for their hard work as they headed to the stage to prep for the band's set.
Though the setlist closely mirrored the previous night in Milwaukee, Tom and the guys seemed to play with their hair on fire for the last show in Minneapolis, as if they aimed to leave everything on the stage before the tour came to a close. Everyone onstage played with incredible energy and appreciation for the crowd cheering in the first few rows, who held up signs and called the band members' names in between songs.
"Tonight is the last night of our U.S. tour," Tom said to the crowd before "American Girl." "Thank you so much, Minneapolis! We'll see you again soon!"
