"You just missed Phil Jackson."
Tom smiled widely standing in the front lounge of his tour bus, the kind of perma-grin all true Lakers fans have upon meeting the legendary basketball coach that brought five championship trophies to Tinsel Town. Eleven Rings, Jackson's new book, lay on a nearby table, autographed to Tom by the Zen Master.
Whether Jackson's vist influenced the night's performance or not, no one will ever really know, but Tom and the guys seemed especially strong on Tuesday night, the second show of this West Coast residency at the Fonda. Tuesday seemed blueser than Monday, with "Baby Please Don't Go" and "I Just Want To Make Love To You" plugged in early in the set. The band paid tribute to J.J. Cale with a great run at "I'd Like To Love You Baby," but it was the acoustic segment of the show - "Rebels," "Two Gunslingers," "Time To Move On" and "Friend of the Devil," sandwiched in between a spaced-out "Tweeter And The Monkey Man" and a killer "It's Good To Be King" - that really made the night tonight. "Rebels" continues to shine in its acoustic re-arrangement and "Time To Move On" seemed to segue beautifully into "Friend of the Devil."
Back at the Fonda tonight! Keep checking back for more from the 2013 Summer Tour!
