June 9, 2013
Fonda Theatre, Los Angeles, CA
"Well....what should we play now?"
Tom tapped through his guitar pedals, a smile creeping across his bearded face as he prepped for the next song. It wasn't as if Sunday night's show was lacking anything to that point. "Honey Bee" stormed in early in the set, bringing along with it a smokin' version of J.J. Cale's "Thirteen Days" that seemed to pair perfectly with the epic blues rocker "Good Enough." Hearing "House in the Woods" is pretty rare, but getting "Walls" - the single off She's the One - in the same night almost never happens. "Woman In Love" was electric, and "Tweeter and the Monkey Man" went further out than it has this entire tour.
So I don't think anyone was expecting it when Tom strode to the mike backed by a wall of guitars and began singing:
"Mama, take this badge off of me.
I can't use it anymore.
It's getting dark, too dark to see.
Feeling like I'm knockin' on heaven's door."
Tonight's our last night at the Fonda! Keep checking back for more from the 2013 summer tour!
