"Turn on the lights! I wanna see all you people!"

Tom Petty stood smiling at center stage, imploring the lighting team to turn on the house lights at the Darien Lake Performing Arts Center. The Heartbreakers had just wrapped up "I Should Have Known It," the first single off Mojo and the last of the four songs the band plays as a part of their mini-set from the new album. Instantly, white floodlights snapped on, illuminating the more than 21,000 cheering Heartbreakers fans that crammed into the amphitheatre for another sold-out night on this Mojo, summer tour.

Everyone was in a festive mood at Darien Lake, from the thrill-seeking fans that rode roller coasters all day at the amusement park adjacent to the venue to David Crosby, who was celebrating his 69th birthday. Crosby, Stills and Nash once again delivered an incredible set to open the evening, including a spine-tingling version of Crosby's hippie anthem "Almost Cut My Hair."

Tom and the band took the stage just as dusk fell on upstate New York. "Listen to Her Heart" got things rolling out of the gate, "You Don't Know How It Feels" smoked and "Kings Highway," off 1991's Into the Great Wide Open, is turning into a great mid-show rocker after starting this tour as the set opener.
