Tour openers can be anxious occasions, but you'd never have guessed it had you been at Colorado's 1st Bank Center Wednesday night for Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers' first show of their 2012 Tour.
Tom and the band strode on stage just after 9 pm to a standing ovation from the relatively intimate 6,500-seat-capacity arena and promptly ripped into "Listen to Her Heart," the first song in a nearly two-and-a-half hour show that found the rock legends covering material from throughout their storied career.
Mixing old classics like "Here Comes My Girl" and "I Won't Back Down" with rarities like "Something Big" off Hard Promises and "Spike" off Southern Accents, Tom and the guys were on top of their game and having a great time digging deep into their catalogue to the great pleasure of the fans at 1st Bank. Not to be left out, the band rocked four songs off Mojo, the highlight of which was the sublime "Something Good Comin'" that had the crowd standing in stunned silence.
Night two at 1st Bank is up next, and then we head east to Little Rock!
