Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers hit Northern California Saturday night, delivering a thrilling set to a sold out standing-room-only audience at Oracle Arena in Oakland.

Joe Cocker and his exceptional eight-piece band continue to impress, complementing the Heartbreakers' hard-charging rock set with a mix of soulful selections from their legendary frontman's celebrated career.

Clocking in at more than two hours, Tom and the band's set drew from across their catalog, including "I Won't Back Down," "Learning to Fly" and "Don't Come Around Here No More." Songs from Mojo, the new album out later this month, continue to evolve as the band hones the live interpretation of their most recent studio masterpiece. While Mike Campbell's guitar playing is at the forefront of these blues-based gems, it's the nuanced interplay between the entire group that ultimately shapes how these songs come alive.

Oakland was the first indoor concert of the tour and so tonight was also the debut of the band's full light and stage production. Laser lights enhance the etherealness of "First Flash of Freedom," a new song off Mojo penned by Petty and Campbell. Six enormous flat screens above the stage give the crowd an up-close view of the band normally afforded only to those in the first few rows.

With three shows in the books, the 2010 Mojo summer tour is off to a fast and exciting start. Check back often at TomPetty.com for tour updates including photos, show recaps and more!
