I didnt remember that statement made at Tuesday's show either but after a week of rocking, rolling and line standing, I suppose its possible I missed it somehow....
What I would love to see (any photos Andy?) and hear about was that amazing interlude during Melinda when Steve Ferrone and Benmont Tench turned the Fonda into their own little improv duet. Mike 'hushing' the crowd (raising his finger to his lips) as if to say 'hey! listen to this!'..... Hopefully someone got a shot of that. There was real pride and admiration on Mike's face as he worked to put a little focus on his bandmates'. One of the absolute highlights of the entire run at the Fonda.....
Im sorry you experienced pushing. I know how much that can detract from a gig! AS for the line standing - everyone has their own opinion on this and I just wanted to chime in that while it was an activity that required stamina and physical exertion, it allowed 'lowly' $80 GA ticket holders a fair chance at the rail if they were willing to get there super early, and still provided a decent view for GA ticket holders who came a few hours early (before the line completely maxxed out).
I love the Stones too but our 'mystery' $85 tickets to the Anaheim gig were behind the stage, parallel to the view screens (so they were not viewable) and in the very last row - up against the wall - and up in the rafters. Very thankful for everything the HCC and the band have done to try and make these gigs intimate and allow fans to get tickets without running the scalper gauntlet.
Wishing your experience was more positive but when I read you mention the Stones, I just had to chime in.
I noticed a pair of microphones suspended above the equipment and above the audience stage right and left. Don't recall seeing them other nights but they could have been there too. Don't know if its part of the sound setup or.... Remember reading somewhere they always record. Whether it might become available someday is the question. But I would really like to hear that gig again and see if my first impressions were on the mark. I think it rivaled (actually, surpassed) the gig at the joint the night before Tom and Dana got married. Best performance Ive ever seen in person. And it was a week of stellar performances not to mention rock and roll history being made live.
Or did I simply dream last week happened?
Haven't seen smiles like that since the Mudcrutch gigs. Tom's got himself one hell of a rock and roll band. And there was a lot to smile about on Sunday night. Redemption? Well, the band never needed any from where I stood, but it still felt like that was part of what they were playing for. And play they did!
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers stepped up in every way.
That night will live as legend.
Thats how it was all night - each band member locked onto the others.... Look at that concentration. Greatest ensemble performance Ive ever seen.
Hi Relic... are you and athena going to the show tonight?? I'm still trying like mad to get a ticket. Thinking about driving up to the venue just in case. If you're there and see anyone who is looking to unload a ticket at the last minute. let me know. Or any other miracle ideas you might have would be greatly appreciated. :)
