Constellation Brands – Marvin Sands Performing Arts Center

    Canandaigua, NY

    July 2, 2017

“He plays everything for us, and we can’t leave home without him,” Tom said on Sunday night in Canandaigua, NY during band introductions. “Ladies and gentlemen, Scott Thurston!”

It may not be overtly apparent, but Scott is the band’s musical glue, playing the parts that often hold the songs together.

    Wells Fargo Center

    Philadelphia, PA

    July 1, 2017

The City of Brotherly Love showed some serious love to a music brotherhood of more than 40 years on Saturday night as Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers returned to the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, a city they played on their very first tour back in 1977.

“Remember that gig?” Tom asked the rest of the band as they gathered in the hallway outside their dressing rooms before walking to the stage. “Rush played with us. It was at the Tower Theatre.”

“I remember that place,” keyboardist Benmont Tench said as guitarist Mike Campbell and

    Wrigley Field

    Chicago, IL

    June 29, 2017

Wrigley Field in Chicago is to Major League Baseball what Red Rocks Amphitheatre means in rock ‘n roll.

Everyone wants to play there; and Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers are no different.

And while the pre-show predictions of rain turned out to be true, it did nothing to dampen Tom and the band’s performance in the least.

    Arroyo Seco Weekend 2017

    Pasadena, CA

    June 24, 2017

Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers kicked off the third leg of their 40th Anniversary tour at the inaugural Arroyo Seco Weekend festival in Pasadena, CA.

In the shadow of the fabled Rose Bowl stadium, Tom and the guys headlined after sets from Alabama Shakes, Dawes, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, The Meters and many more.

“Into The Great Wide Open” made its tour debut, an apropos choice considering Arroyo Seco was the first Southern California show of the tour.

Before the show, Tom and the band huddled in the dressing room, running through

“So the chorus goes like this.”

Mike Campbell strums a black Fender Stratocaster as Marty Stuart watches the Heartbreaker guitarist’s hands glide across the fretboard running through “Crawling Back To You” in his dressing room backstage at the Mountain Jam festival in upstate New York.

“I think I’ve got it,” says the country music legend, who started playing in Lester Flatt’s band in 1972 at the age of fourteen.

    Xfinity Theater

    Hartford, CT

    June 14, 2017

During “You Don’t Know How It Feels” in Hartford, CT on Wednesday night, Tom was preparing to take a guitar solo after the final verse when Benmont Tench III launched into a beautiful solo on his Steinway concert grand piano on stage right.

The surprise may have caused a musical traffic jam onstage for most bands, but not with Tom and guys.  Looking up from his Stratocaster, Tom glanced across the stage at Benmont as he unwound his solo and simply pointed at his long-time bandmate and friend and smiled.

    U.S. Bank Arena

    Cincinnati, OH

    June 12, 2017

As many times as Tom and the band have played “Free Fallin’” since the release of Full Moon Fever back in 1989, the song always delivers.

Maybe it’s the beautiful simplicity with which it begins: Mike and Tom standing together in the spotlight at the center of an otherwise pitch-black stage, Rickenbacker guitars as their side.

Or maybe it’s the anthemic chorus, just five words that Tom sings twice over the top of soaring guitars, keys, bass and drums.

Or it could be the universality of the lyric.
