    "Hollywood!"

Tom Petty stretched out his arms to embrace the avalanche of adoration that cascaded down onstage from the 1,200 fans jam-packed into the Fonda Theatre last night for the opening night of the Heartbreakers' six-night residency at the old Tinsel Town haunt.

Monday night's show continued Tom's stated goal for the New York and Los Angeles residencies: to dig into the band's catalog while at the same time playing a few choice covers as a tip of the hat to their heroes. "I Won't Back Down" gave everyone at the Fonda a chance to sing along to something they know, but the real highlight of the first half of the show was "Billy the Kid," a deep track off 1999's Echo. "Tweeter and the Monkey Man" continues to shift every night, growing looser and looser with each playing to allow Mike Campbell a chance to explore some new sonic territory.

"I always wanted to come to Hollywood," Tom said after "Angel Dream." "Growing up in north Florida near Gainesville, I loved all the bands from out here like The Byrds and Buffalo Springfield. Hollywood was like a dream for me. Standing out back of the venue tonight, I could feel all the musicians that we love and respect, some of which who are now gone. So we're gonna do this one for one of those folks who's no longer with us. This one goes out to the ghost of Lowell George."

With that, Tom and the guys ripped into the Little Feat classic "Willin'," and the entire Fonda erupted in cheers, especially for the chorus:

I've been from Tuscon to Tucumcari
    Tehachapi to Tonapah
Driven every kind of rig that's ever been made
Driven the back roads so I wouldn't get weighed
And if you give me: weed, whites, and wine
And you show me a sign
I'll be willin', to be movin'

Back at the Fonda tonight! Keep checking back for more from the 2013 Summer Tour!

Went to the show last night, Thursday, 6/6, at the Fonda Theatre in Hollywood and it was such an awesome show that I am at a loss for words. Amazing, Fantastic, Incredible, OMG, Jaw dropping, awe staring...and so much more!!! How can Tom & the HB's keep delivering each and every time...as they won't back down, no they won't back down! I believe it was the BEST show I have ever seen and I have see MANY! My husband has never been up front and center and we were VIP's, so got what we wanted. What an experience. The set list was genuis. It had a mix of deep tracks, obscure songs we forgot how great they were mixed in with his "sing-a-long" tunes. They were all so superb... but Mike Campbell is the MAN! I loved watching him work his fingers on that instrument. The sound was perfect for that theatre. I have been called many things, but last night, I was "Rail Girl" and could not of been any happier! I would of danced on the rail if I could. THANK YOU TOM and each and every one of you HB's for an awesome night of entertainment. A "special" thank you to Steve for the drumsticks. I will cherish them along with my other TP paraphernalia.  Hope to see you all again soon...IF I can find tickets to these sold out shows!!!

Sparkly girl in front :-)

I attended the Monday show and am still on Cloud 9 from the music.    Was in the 2nd row.  Expected, that this show would be full of industry people.  Not!  True, hardcore fans.  Thank you Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers.  Best tour of the summer - the anti-RS tour!  You placed and kept the tickets in the hands of your fans and the front row was equal opportunity.   THANK YOU!!!!!!

Thanks again Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers!  By far, my best show yet!  I could write a book about how you have touched, inspired and co-conspired in fulfilling my dreams, but last night you blew me away!  So great to hear the stuff from the "vault" and even more fulfulling that you once again delivered a divine connection with a friend from my past.  (That's another story for the book...)

I flew in from PDX to LA and my GF came from SLC.  Unsure about she and I, it seemed as if TP delivered a show just for us.  Every note, riff and lyric may have well been a ceremony to stitch our (broken) hearts and souls together.  Not sure how it happened but there is some divine connection with your music, my life and a long departed friend and fan. The only way I can describe it is my deceased friend is keeping the R&R vibe going via TP & the HBs.  I bow in humble reverence!  Can't wait to see you again!

Forerever gratefiul to be there, Dave. : )
