Beacon Theatre Night Five: Recap, Photos & Set List!

"Steely Dan has 26 sold-out shows here, huh? Looks like we have some work to do, Wayne."

Tom smiled slyly at Wayne Williams (Benmont Tench's long-time tech who also works with Donald Fagen and Walter Becker) as he examined the plaque commemorating the duo's long association with the Beacon.

It's a few minutes before Tom and the band take the stage for the final night of their five-night run at the Upper West Side theatre, and the mood backstage is loose. As band members make their way down in the elevator that carries them down from the dressing rooms on the floors above, friends and family mingle in the narrow hallway that leads to the stage. With four amazing nights of music in the books, Tom dug even deeper into the bag for tonight's setlist, pulling out "Honey Bee," "Spike," "Down South" and the ultra-rare "Girl on LSD" along with covers of J.J. Cale's "13 Days" and Paul Butterfield's Blues Band's "Born in Chicago." "It's Good To Be King" was the cornerstone of the set and served as a great transition between "Willin'" and the rest of the acoustic mini-set and the electric heavy hitters to follow. "I Should Have Known It" has grown into a show staple, priming the pump for the set-closing one-two punch of "Refugee" and "Runnin' Down A Dream."

"New York City, thank you!" Tom said before strumming the opening notes of "American Girl." "We've had a great time playing here this week and won't soon forget it. We're gonna end it back where it all began!"

We're coming home to LA! We'll be at the Fonda next week, but keep checking back for more from the Beacon Theatre run!

A TPATH show = One Moment In Time Where Everything Is Alright!!!! Another electric performance and one with some covers I've never seen you guys do live....I am still floating on a cloud from Thursday's show and Sunday's show.  The Beacon Theatre is amazing and I can't think of a more deserving rock and roll band to rock out there!  I have "Girl on LSD" on a vinyl 45....I saw you guys perform it once before but seeing you do it in such an intimate setting gave me goosebumps!  TPATH, thank you again for giving me The Best Of Everything and for the pictures, autographs, and Mike's guitar pick.  As one of your truest fans (I know there are many!), I hope you know that you and your music have kept me smilin' and lovin' life since I first "discovered" you when I was twelve years old in 1979.  Being able to meet you in person was definitely a dream come true...and I will be in Dreamville for a loooonnnnggg time....it was truly an HONOR!!!  Can't wait for the new album in 2014 and HOPEFULLY A TOUR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Rock out at the Fonda.

this may be a dumb question, but why do some pictures have a red banner in the corner that says "fan club"  ps, i didn't realize till just now that a few other people have already asked this question..... i am curious.  oh, to be one of those fans having tom sign their book !  one of my dreams !

The Beacon Theater show last Sunday night was by far the best Tom Petty show I've ever seen! And I've seen some good ones over the years! Can we do it again, same time, same place next year?

Wow, amazing photography from the gig - Examining the faces in the photo of the band taking their bow you just have to feel the joy. I got a big grin on my face when I looked at that shot. Hope everyone checks out the photo links.

Hover your mouse over the photo up top and right click and select view image for a much larger version that really lets you see the detail.

I like those backstage photos!

That shot of Tom and Mike together on the couch is pretty cool.

Oh, yea! Why do some of the pics say FAN CLUB in the upper left corner?

relic's picture

I dont know - it is odd isnt it? Some do some dont.....

Maybe they are 'fan club exclusives' (until someone posts them elsewhere?)

No idea

phillyfangirl's picture

I thought it was maybe pictures that a fan on the board took that they got permission to use. What is it HCC?
