    Evansville Recap and Setlist

    Ford Center, Evansville, IN

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers kicked off their 21-show North American tour last night with two-plus hours of rock 'n roll in Evansville, Indiana that found Tom and the band dusting off some old gems and deep album cuts for a grateful standing-room-only crowd at the Ford Center.

Opening with The Byrds' "So You Want To Be A Rock And Roll Star," Tom and the guys dug deep on night one of the tour, crafting the setlist with hits, some choice covers and a handful of deep cuts that hadn't been performed in years. "Tweeter And The Monkey Man" - a song off The Traveling Wilburys' 1988 debut album - made it's live premiere and was among the show's many syandouts. Other bust outs included a rare, raucous cover of Muddy Waters' "I Just Want To Make Love To You" and "Louisiana Rain," a gorgeous acoustic track off Damn The Torpedos last played in 1989. Despite all the attention paid to the rarities, Tom and the band played plenty of hits, reeling through classics like "Free Fallin'," "Yer So Bad," "Refugee," "Don't Come Around Here No More" and "American Girl."

Hangout Music Fest, we're coming for ya! Hope to see you on the beach on Saturday!

Wish I could be at concert Saturday night. Having to save the petty cash for unexpected expenses. Have fun all who make it there.
Hope to make a later appearance.

Write a comment here (no HTML please) Mr. Tom E Petty, My husband and I enjoyed your company and all of your band in Evansville IN. We drove from Mid-Michigan area. I wish you would have done the song about meeting friends that the bar and have A Big Weekend. Maybe another concert? Anyway in that song you gave me the idea to paint my house white and brown. But then before I could, I lost the house due to the mortgage dibockle, doing a short sale to save myself from a foreclosure. Not to worry, though. I ended up getting married to my first and best boy friend, who was my lover - after 32 years of no contact. When hubby and I discovered we both were big fams of yours, we both knew the other had not changed away from who we knew all those years ago. Thank you for giving me a wonderful 58th birthday with my husband.

TP&HB Greatest Hits LP was the first cd I'd ever owned, got it when I was 7 years old. 19 years later I finally got to see them in concert and I couldn't have asked for a better show. What a perfect night. TP&HB...I can't thank you enough!

This was my best friend's 1st big concert & a 40th birthday surprise, and you guys BLEW THE ROOF off of the Ford Center!!!! Thank you for putting all of your heart and soul into your music- your passion and dedication comes through loud and clear- along with talent and experience... LOL, I could go on and on. WE LOVE YOU, and PLEASE come back to Evansville sooner than 18 years. I swear that you all were amazing then, but somehow, even better now! Your show last night was PRICELESS!!!

Evansville was my 5th Petty concert and one of the BEST! Hearing him play some covers was awesome and Tom had the crowd eating out of his hand ALL NIGHT LONG! Excellent show! And as always Mike Campbell was right on the money all night long during several riffs. Ford Center is very new and it was an awesome venue for Tom and the boys. Looking forward to seeing him again in June in Noblesville! Write a comment here (no HTML please)

A little piece of heaven last nite for me!  Everything! This concert at the top of my "favorite concert" list!  What performers they are!  They certainly are a premium act!

Awesome time at the kick-off night of this tour!  Never a bad concert from TP&HB, but it was damn cool to hear some of the "deep tracks".
