Broomfield Night 2 Recap and Setlist
The celebration of the return of Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers to the stage for the kickoff of their 2012 Tour was dampened a bit on Thursday with the news of the passing of Levon Helm, the legendary drummer for The Band. But in true Heartbreaker fashion, Tom and the band chose not to mourn Helm but to celebrate the incredible life he lived with a powerhouse set of two-plus hours of music that left the sold-out crowd at the 1st Bank Center in Broomfield, CO cheering for more.

"You Wreck Me" and "Here Comes My Girl" also got everyone dancing and singing along early in the set and just as the final notes of "Handle With Care" rang out (which Tom dedicated, "to all those Wilbury guys, wherever they are traveling tonight"), Tom stepped quietly to the microphone to say a few words about Helm.

"We lost a good friend today, Levon Helm," Tom said. "Levon was one of the greatest human beings that ever was and a friend of everyone in this band. We’re gonna play this one for him."

The Best of Everything, the album-closing track off Southern Accents, was an apt choice to honor Helm, but one couldn’t help but wonder if the Turkey Scratch, Arkansas native might have enjoyed more the monstrous "Something Big" that followed, a bluesy stomper with a driving rhythm that’s any drummer’s dream.

Tom if you see this please play Mystic Eyes If not could you play Louisiana Rain or Casa Dega I love all your songs but I really like the ones you don't hear on the radio all the time. I haven't missed a CO show since 1999, and this was by far the BEST SHOW YET!!!! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, for playing Best of Everything...I have waited 13 years to hear you play this one live! It is my favorite! Also, it was amazing to hear a Wilbury song...again I have waited a long time to hear one of these live...and to hear both at one show was AWESOME!!! Come back soon!

Please, please Tom.....keep the set list fresh and full of unexpected pleasures! We do not care if you have it down perfect or not. We love you and will enjoy each surprise!!! We are looking for covers and new stuff. We love greatest hits but do not want a whole show of them. This list looks perfect...more than "Good Enough"!

I was at the show last night and I wore a t-shirt of the band I got back in the 80s. Levon of course was one of the best drummers there was and his singing was nothing short of amazing. Thank you for paying tribute to another fellow musician. Another reason that I love Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. And oh thanks for another wonderful show. Have fun on the road, and as Roy and Dale would have said Happy Trails to you till we meet again.:)

Repeat Red Rocks next time though, please. It is even better.

Tom and Crew, Thank you for checking off one of my "bucket list" items. Hearing you play "Time To Move On" live was on my list. Six concerts later, you checked it off. Thank you. While many of your songs carry with them great memories, that song will forever carry special memories to me and my family. Thanks for playing it last night. It made an amazing experience a truly unforgettable one. Keep rocking! Mark
