My heart is breaking today at the loss of such an incredible person, musician and life long friend! I have worshiped this man since 1973, living in Gainesville, Florida and seeing "Mudcrutch" for free every Sunday on the North Union lawn. The Heartbreakers influenced my love of music and I thank you, Thomas Earl Petty for blessing us with your presence! I will miss you, you Crabby Old Hippy. RIP Cindy E., Sarasota, Florida

My wife and I finally were privileged to see him this Aug at G1 Center, and what a show. We feel so fortunate to have witnessed this American icon play his best music, and the band sounded great. Thank you Tom for providing the soundtrack to my early years, you will be missed but never forgotten.

Rock and roll will never be the same...

Tom was a true warrior of Rock and Roll. His gift to the music industry will never be completely appreciated. Most importantly he was always good to his fans. Wheather fighting the music industry on record prices or refunding the fans their ticket prices for incomplete shows (see Henry Fonda Theatre) his grace and human compassion will be soarly missed. When a kindred spirt such as himself is taken from humanity the scar remains for a while. Thank you Tom for everything. You will be missed. This is one of those "days the music dies".

TP lives on, in his music, in our grateful for him in my time on this planet. ❤

Thank you for all of the songs and all of the joy they brought. I am heartbroken, but oh so grateful that I got to attend a show from this most recent tour. It is unfathomable how one so vital on the stage such a scant few months ago is now gone from us. My deepest sympathies to your family, friends, and the Heartbreakers. May the warm memories of the good times you shared together comfort you in this time of such great loss. Rock on, TP.

This is a very sad day indeed, the music of tom and the boys got me thru so many shit times in my life, many self inflicted. The songs guided, moved, healed, and in the darkest or happiest of lyrics there was the lesson that each day was a new opportunity to seize. To love, nurture and show resilience and it could be done with a touch of humor, defiance and grace. To the family and band, god bless and my strength to you. To tom, thank you.

Tom your music and poetry created so much happiness for me and my brothers and my best friends. We never met but your music was a beacon for happiness in my life. God Bless you and your family and the Heartbreakers. P.S. you went to heaven before i hit the lotto and was going to ask you and the Heartbreakers to play the Coachhouse in San Juan Capistrano with me picking the setlist. No words to describe all the good times at Irvine, Pacific Amp, Greek Theatre Berkely, Hard Rock Vegas, Forum, Honda Center, and even Palm Desert. RIP to the Coolest and greatest Singer song writer rocker of ALL TIME.

Thank you TP for decades of listening pleasure and unrivaled live shows. You brought joy to millions and proved to the world that the underdog can make it big with drive, passion and a relentless pursuit for things you believe in. My sincerest condolences to Dana, the family, your bandmates and to the many friends who adored you and respected you for everything you gave to them. You were an inspiration to many through your unparalled song writing. I cannot believe I have lost a very close person in my life. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers help me like many others get thru the pains in life, especially for me when your heart does get broken. He helped explain it to me many years before he echoed those words "love is a long long road" He was my best friend for many years, my background music for emotions and understanding many things inside. He will be missed. I am so glad I got to see him many times at many places including his last show at Red Rocks this summer.. And that I got to share him with family and friends and my kids. He will live on forever. Thanks Sirius XM for sharing him also... Long Live Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers in our hearts. the good die young.

Utterly shattering... the world is a cold and empty place without Tom's unique and genuine soul-so real, so right, so true-always felt as long as he was on the planet things would be alright. Was praying for a miracle because I don't know how we will get along without his spirit. Fly with the angels, Tom- and God Bless you for bringing magic into our lives for 40 years! So grateful that you came around to see us and bring us one more moment when EVERYTHING was alright before you left. Sending peace love and strength to the Heartbreakers, his family and the millions of others who loved him and are grieving. Never wanted to wake up to this day and this is one god damn hard goodbye but it was a glorious time we all shared and will live in our hearts forever..

Words can't describe how heartbroken and devastated I am. I dreaded this day so much, and now it has come, far too soon. Rest easy, Tom. You were always there, and you always will be. May my love travel with you always.

I started listening to your music when I was a senior in high school back in 1978 . Tom was one of the best songwriters in music history! My thoughts go out to Tom's family and the Heartbreakers. Rest In Peace will live on through your music.

My thoughts go out to Tom Petty's family, close friends and of course the band. I feel very fortunate to have seen him perform many times, he never disappointed. I am deeply saddened by this news it is such a sad and tragic loss.

Heartbroken, as everyone must feel. Our condolences to Tom's family and friends. Always loved his and the bands' music, but while listening to his radio show, my respect and admiration just grew. He was so down to earth yet he possessed such genius as a musician and songwriter. He was inspired by the greats and he became even greater. He remains one of the most brilliant artists of our time and beyond. I am very sad that we will hear nothing new from our Last DJ. But I also imagine that maybe he is jamming with George, Roy, Prince, and others now. It is some comfort there. Peace.

I'm grateful to have come of age while Tom was making music. I made the same move that he did, from FL to CA, and his music always felt like a lodestar for me. "Crawling Back To You" is my all time favorite, and I saw him play it in Berkeley last month. "I'm so tired of being tired." Love to anyone and everyone reading this note.

With you on all of that, brother

We were at your last concert last Monday at the Hollywood bowl. It was such a nice time with the fantastic music. You made people forget about all the problems in the world for a couple of hours. Thank you for the great music. God bless your family and your band.
