Oklahoma City got its first taste of Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers on August 1, 1978 when the band played the Music Hall on the You’re Gonna Get It! tour.

Thirty-nine years later, Tom and the guys returned to OKC on Thursday for the opening night of their 40th Anniversary Tour.

The excitement was palpable inside the Chesapeake Energy Arena before the lights dropped for Joe Walsh's fantastic opening set, and the anticipation continued to build as the Heartbreaker road crew prepared the stage before Tom and the guys arrived to thunderous applause.

“Rockin’ Around With You,” the opening track off their debut album, got things started on the right foot and set the tone for what would be a two-hour-plus run through of the band’s entire catalogue, culminating with their first big hit, “American Girl.”

Highlights included an intense "It's Good to Be King" and a theatrical "Don't Come Around Here No More" with Tom pulling out from a trunk onstage the old top hat most familiar to fans from the song's video.

Joining the Heartbreakers on this tour are the Webb Sisters, who provided beautiful background vocals and harmonies all night long, but especially on "Mary Jane's Last Dance," "Don't Come Around Here No More" and "Learning to Fly."

Here is the set list from Oklahoma City. We’re off and running, and we’ll see you in Dallas!

We are still talking about the Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers show in OKC! What a night! Thank you for one of the greatest rock and roll shows we have ever seen. You guys nailed it! And the Webb sisters are so lovely and talented, such beautiful harmonies! Joe Walsh and his great band as the opening act took the whole concert experience to eleven. AWESOME! We love you guys, so thanks again for kicking off the 40th Tour in the Heartland!

OK, ya'll, Dallas was phenomenal! Tom and the boys totally rocked out, so many hits! The venue was packed, and the gals from the UK who sang with them had the sweetest voices, and harmonized beautifully. We were so blessed and privileged to have been able to attend this awesome concert by our favorite rockers of all time! Thank you Tom, Benmont, Mike, Ron (Love the hair), Steve and Scott. We love you all so much!! Praying success and favor, safety and health throughout the tour. God bless.

'The Waiting is the hardest part!" My first TP concert was at the Philadelphia Spectrum in 78. So excited for the upcoming show. Going to the 7/29 show with hopes to see him on 7/1?as well. The very best in rock and roll. Could not be more excited!

Can't wait to see the show in Nashville on Tuesday! When Mr. Petty and the band came to Nashville in the early 80's Tom had my wife, a tall, handsome redhead , pulled halfway on stage for American girl, but her girlfriend pulled her back! She is still tall, handsome and redheaded, but she is back for this show with her husband and 3 sons(21,20,18). If Mr. Petty needs a dance partner for "American Girl", no one will pull her back this time! we are about 15 rows back. Regardless, can't wait to be at the show!

Yeah, that's Ron. When I seen him come out I was like "where did Tom find Moses?" No offense Ron. It's a distinguished look on you.
