    Fonda Theatre, Los Angeles, CA

    On tours like these (and especially when playing intimate venues like the Beacon and Fonda), there are moments that happen every night that go undocumented but hopefully not unnoticed. One of those moments happened Thursday night.

     

    Shortly after Tom and Mike arrived at the Fonda Thursday night, the whole band huddled in a backstage dressing room underneath the old Hollywood theatre to discuss the setlist.

     

    Inside a narrow rectangular room lined with vanity mirrors, Tom looked over setlists from the previous nights as Scott and Mike looked on. Richard popped his head in to make sure everyone was ok. Ron changed shirts, handing one off to Queenie. Ferrone checked out a new snare drum. Benmont leaned up against a corner, watching silently. After a few minutes of conferring with the others, Tom handed the handwritten setlist to Richard, who disappeared to type it up and distribute it to the road crew.

     

    Standing in the doorway of this tiny little dressing room, it might be easy to forget that the six musicians crammed in here putting together tonight's setlist are Rock 'n Roll Hall of Famers and hometown legends. And maybe that's the goal of this tour and these residencies: to get back to a time when Tom and the guys were free to play whatever songs they wanted to and do it in intimate rooms where an appreciative audience sweats just as hard as the band.

<p>I was quite fortunate to attend both the show on the 6th, and the 11th. &nbsp;I brought my daughter on the 11th. &nbsp;She is almost 13, and it was thrilling to see her witness the greatest American rock band - she's a big fan, also. &nbsp;She was blown away and inspired by Mike Campbell's genius on guitar, and I am still on a high from seeing Tom Petty and the HBs so close up. &nbsp;I loved the set list - a mixture of greatest hits and more obscure songs. &nbsp;It was amazing to hear gems such as 'Wildflowers'. &nbsp;I will NEVER forget these shows, and I'm grateful that they played this small venue for their fans. Tom Petty &amp; the HBs are American treasures - simply amazing musicians. &nbsp;I loved the shows and I can only wish that they'll continue to play small venues from time to time. &nbsp; Thank you, TOM &amp; the HBs, &nbsp;You're only getting better and better - how that is possible I don't even know! &nbsp;This was a gift. &nbsp;Thank you for giving your fans a chance to see you up close.</p>

<p>Went to the show&nbsp; on Thursday, 6/6, at the Fonda Theatre in Hollywood and it was such an awesome show that I am at a loss for words. Amazing, Fantastic, Incredible, <st1:stockticker>OMG</st1:stockticker>, Jaw dropping, awe staring...and so much more!!! How can Tom &amp; the HB's keep delivering each and every time...as they won't back down, no they won't back down! I believe it was the BEST show I have ever seen and I have see MANY! My husband has never been up front and center and we were <st1:stockticker>VIP</st1:stockticker>'s, so got what we wanted. What an experience. The set list was genuis. It had a mix of deep tracks, obscure songs we forgot how great they were mixed in with his "sing-a-long" tunes. They were all so superb... but Mike Campbell is the <st1:stockticker>MAN</st1:stockticker>! I loved watching him work his fingers on that instrument. The sound was perfect for that theatre. I have been called many things, but last night, I was "Rail Girl" and could not of been any happier! I would of danced on the rail if I could. <strong>THANK YOU </strong><st1:stockticker><strong>TOM&nbsp;</strong></st1:stockticker><strong>and and each and every one of you HB's</strong> for an awesome night of entertainment. <em>A "special" thank you to <strong>Steve </strong>for the drumsticks.</em> I will cherish them along with my other TP paraphernalia. &nbsp;Hope to see you all again soon...IF I can find tickets to these sold out shows!!!</p><p>Sparkly girl-dead center- front :-)</p><p>&nbsp;</p>

<p>I was at the Tom Petty Show at the Fonda on June 8th. &nbsp;First let me say that I have been a huge fan since seeing him at the Paradise in Boston many years ago. &nbsp;I flew in from Boston to see &nbsp;the show with my daughter who lives in L.A. &nbsp;We did not have early entry to the theater and waited in line to be admitted. Several questionable events happened. &nbsp;The women who banded for alcohol consumption inside the theater came around twice asking the crowd if anyone needed tickets.The people standing behind us waited for 2 people to arrive and sold them their ticket passes to the venue.I purchased my tickets in March, and looked forward to seeing one my favorite bands in the type of venue where I first heard them live. I thought the band sounded amazing and played some 'deep cuts' that are my favorites. From the start the crowd was a problem, being more interested in drinking,and talking loudly even during his more quiet and beautiful songs.The crowd on the floor increased throughout the performance. &nbsp;At 10:30 &nbsp;Petty anounced that they were over capacity by 100 people and he would have to cut his show short.At first the crowd thought he was kidding but it became apparent that this was no joke.The crowd became disrespectful yelling 'You Suck' <span style="line-height: 1.3846em;">&nbsp; It is a shame that this show was cut short and true fans were denied the opportunity to have a full show. I go to concerts because I love the music and that is what I pay money to hear. &nbsp;For me seeing Petty in such a small venue was amazing. &nbsp;I was there to hear him and his band play.They fulfilled every expectation for as long as they played.His openig comment of &nbsp;"Welcome to Hollywood' &nbsp;made me laugh in its sarcasm.There were a lot of people that were much more interested in saying that they saw Petty, than they were interested in hearing an amazing band perform. &nbsp;I dont know who was responsible for the overcrowding and the show being cut short,I am disappointed that some of the crowd was disrespectful and that overselling cut the show</span></p>

<p>Everyone should call ticketmaster and complain. Ticketmaster is filling out a form to send to the venue to request money back but we need multiple people to call 800-653-8000. If nobody calls The Fonda gets away with this. Not cool..</p>

I feel for everyone who had their show cut short by 20 minutes. It is the best part of the show. I was there for the first three nights. The first two nights were great. By Thursday night we were packed. Extremely difficult to move anywhere. I do not think it came from higher up. I think it came from way down the pole. A Fonda employee told us that there would be 1300 in the venue even though it was advertised as 1200. There were some people who wanted to cash in. In any case it seems interesting that the Fire Marshall waited an hour and forty three minutes to shut it down. So sorry for all you fans........

I cannot believe in the 40 years of going to a concert, I have never been to show that was shut down because of the gross negligence of the venue and the promoters! This is unacceptable in this digital age with will call only tickets and advertised as a exclusive event that only a controlled amount of people would be admitted after they completed an arduous set of hoops, hurdles and bull shit to secure the tickets! This is wrong. Although your fans are right...we were the only one's hurt by the negligence...I feel most sorry for the fans, some of them that waited their whole life to see Tom, which was the case for my guest. Unbelievable and totally unacceptable. We all should get full refunds!!!!

<P>Great&nbsp;show even though cut short...like others reeling from the anti-climax , I would add that some costs do not have a dollar sign...&nbsp; not sure if I will see TPHB again...unless maybe someone who has the power can demand a happier ending or make this more equitable on many fronts to the audience June 8th?</P>

<p>At least all the shows so far had a planned ending, certainly not the case for the June 8th show. &nbsp;VERY dissappointed with the LA Fire Marshal that actually shut down the show and with The Fonda for allowing a situation that called for it.&nbsp;</p>

Went to the Fonda on the 8 th. great show till the fire Marshall's shut it down for having 100 too many people. Who is responsible for that. I think it starts at the top. I had to jump through hoops to get these tickets. and it was not like spending 3.50 to see neill young miles Davis and Steve miller at the filmore in 1970. it was more like 100 times more than that . Not to mention airfare from nor cal , rental car , 400.00 per night for a hotel in west Hollywood, meals valet tips , parking, etc. I have a bad taste in my mouth. who is responsible for overselling the show and ruining a a spectacular evening for many people that made sacrifices in order to have a great time with Tom and the band.. 2013... It's like a rookie mistake only costly for most of us fans. I am very disappointed as we're everyone in the VIP section; that we paid dearly for the tickets and some could I'll afford. I don't know I,m just sitting in my overpriced hotel with my head in my hands and am..... Well I don't know who to blame but "....I just sucks. the show was great up to that point. Maybe I'm just too old for this shit

It is a disgrace and a dissapointment to TP&amp;THB.&nbsp; You sing, "Don't do me like that????" But I jumped through hoops, I signed up for your fan club, bought $45 whiskey glasses, then bought $500 tickets and I can't even see an entire show??? This is ridiculous! If you want to make ammends, here is my email address joeyberumen@gmail.com if you don't, consider it a fan lost.&nbsp; It breaks my heart, but that was pitiful. I loved you....</p>
