Scott Thurston is like musical glue.

Whether it's his acoustic guitar strumming on "Yer So Bad" or "Runnin' Down A Dream," his intertwining electric guitar on "I Should Have Known It" with Mike Campbell, or his high harmony vocals on songs like "I Won't Back Down" and "Here Comes My Girl," the Heartbreakers' multi-instrumentalist on stage left does it all, always tastefully providing whatever is needed to best serve the song.

Sunday night's show in Alpharetta was just another example of Scott's integral role in this band, beginning with his vocals on the band's cover of the Traveling Wilburys' "Handle with Care." Filling the shoes of the late great Roy Orbison is a monumental undertaking in and of itself, but Scott nails the Texas troubadour's part in the Wilburys' classic night in and night out, always eliciting a wide smile from Tom and the rest of the band. On "Takin' My Time," Scott's harmonica playing provides a crucial foil to Tom's slow growl and the dirge-like blues played by the rest of the band. On Bo Diddley's "I'm A Man," his harp takes center stage, sparing with Mike Campbell's lead riffs before the song explodes like a church tent revival.

Florida, we're almost home! Come out and see us in Estero and Orlando this week!

Used to seeing the band at Darien Lake, but Atlanta is definitely not too far from Buffalo to see a LEGEND and IDOL like Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, BaByYyYy!!! The show he puts on never fails to awe me!!! An experience like no other.
billerboy8's picture

got our tickets and taking a 10 hour car ride just to see you Tom Petty cant wait

Whoever says Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre is a bad venue is all wrong. You can park within short walking distance from a huge field where everybody tailgates before and after the show. Easy access to all bathrooms and loads of places to get food and drinks, the lawn is great and it's open and breezy for those hot summer concerts. The worst venue in Atlanta area is the old sorry Lakewood Amphitheater. It's got this low roof, tiny screens if you are on the lawn. Hot it's like they just put a roof where two warehouses come together. Plus the neighborhood is the hood. Chastain is another good venue and ofcourse the Fox theatre

@thebeatles67 The SAME exact thing happened to me... Took me almost an hour to get normal seats. First four attempts said no orch tickets available. Your first offer was way better than mine, I was back section row Z when it finally updated. Thought I was going to have to bail altogether. Finally got decent seats. We are in the same row, I'll see you there! Twitter? MzForza

I am so excited to see Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers! I was literally just saying the other day how they are on my list of bands to see before I die and here they are! Can't wait!!!

rk66, I'm curious why you do not like Verizon. The only comparable-sized venues are Philips and Gwinnett arenas or Lakewood Amphitheatre. Verizon beats those because arena sound stinks and Lakewood is in a sketchy neighborhood. Sure, the Fox would be great, but it's only a little more that a third the size.

Ok--long time HCC member buying tickets at 10am on Jan 9--first offering was row S in Orch 1--for the next 30 mins I get lousy choices----I rejected nearly 20 offerings--finally got row H in Orch 3--while not great I accepted.

I thought the pre-sale code was available today? And I have no Ideal why they keep going to this venue. It's by far one of the worst places in the ATL Area to see a show. I'll go because I LOVE Tom Petty's music.

i just renewed membership in HCC. How do I get my pre-sale access code?

I am moving from Phoenix to Georgia this month and just bought my package for the April Alpharetta show down the way from my new home. Last year the Phoenix show was postponed and I could not go to the new date due to work. This time, I hope to actually get to see one of the greatest songwriters of our time and the best band on earth. Can't wait.... Funny, TPHB have always been my favorite and somehow I could never make the show because of work. Not this time.

Coming from VA to see Tom!!! I'd also like to add... I'M GOING TO SIT IN THE FIRST 15 ROWS!!! PREMIUM TICKET PACKAGE!

Got my Tickets -- Can't Wait!!! This may not be NY but I will get front row again! This will be #6 for me... & if you add some NY shows maybe I'll get to see Lucky #7 this summer too...

Nothing decent available at 10am. Best I was offered was Sect 2, Row Z or Sec 3 Row G, Seats 16-17, way left of center. Looks like all good seats went to VIP packages. Won't be heading to ATL this time around...
ratcub's picture

anyopne get thru to the VIP presale. ? amd for the reglar pre-sale, what kinda tickets were you offered? thanks

This is the first Tom Petty concert I've been to but i love him. I'm buying my dads concert ticket for his birthday. I'm sooooo excited!

I noticed the pre-sale starts tomorrow and was wondering why they were selling them on Jan 6 according to rbh22988. I checked and they were being sold but now it seems someone must of notified them.

I paid for the fan club upgrade, so I could get a presale code. When will I receive it? Hopefully, before tickets go on sale tomorrow morning. I am so looking forward to the concert! A Tom Petty and the Heartbreaker show has been on my bucket list for years!

Concert number two. Hope its as good as the first one

I was looking at the tickets for the Orlando show just to get an idea of what I would be paying. The Premium Package promises seats within the first 15 rows, but you won't know your exact seat until you get to the show. For $250 a ticket, I think that sucks! Is there any way to get tickets in the first rows and know what you are buying? It reaks to buy a $40 membership, then that much in tickets and not know where in the hell you are sitting!

LOVE MOJO!!! IMHO it's the best compilation of timeless songs from TP&H. Why no radio play? Every song is better than most of the junk coming out and being played today.

Will the VIP packages also be avaliable for pre-sales?
brock's picture

Just checking.

Nearly all purchasers will get an adjacent lot parking pass. No worries!
brock's picture

Philip, you must have done the satellite parking because you did not get a parking pass, probably because you came separately from whoever bought the tix who had the pass. Anyone who buys tix WILL get a free parking pass for one of the lots adjacent to the venue, no bus required (even w/ willcall; they will mail you only the parking pass before the show.) Also, you can order additional parking passes when you buy tix for $2 each if friends on your ticket order are coming separately. Yeah, that was a mother of a thunderstorm in '08. It happens in the summer here. Doubtful it will be cold in late April, but if it is, may I suggest you bring a jacket?

Tom please play your old stuff it rocks, I would be very happy to hear those songs live. Your new ones are probably good too, you rock no matter what!! Really excited to have you as my first concert :)
pbreedlove's picture

We love Tom Petty and know his concert will be awesome. However, the GA Verizon venue was a horrible experience for us the last time Tom was there. We had to park and ride a bus to the concert and then stand in line forever to ride bus back to the parking area. The rain did not help. It really diminished the super concert. We have been looking forward to seeing Tom again but refuse to pay for another Verizon concert....especially when it could be extremely cold. We do hope that Tom will consider another venue next time.
