Jun 18 2012
London,
Royal Albert Hall

Since its opening by Queen Victoria in 1871, the Royal Albert Hall in London has hosted some of the world's biggest concerts and events with the most famous artists on the planet.

Yet over the course of its illustrious near 150-year history, the Albert Hall has never hosted Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, an oversight that was rectified Monday night with an epic show that those in attendance will talk about for years to come.

"Ladies and gentlemen, we can't tell you how excited we are to be here in London tonight," Tom said after "I Won't Back Down." "It's been a dream of ours to play this hall for our entire lives, and we've got a lot of songs for you tonight."

With that, Tom and the guys launched into "Here Comes My Girl" off Damn the Torpedoes, and the band was off and running. The version of "Handle with Care" which came next, performed on a stage graced so many times by fellow Wilbury George Harrison, was particularly beautiful and poignant. Indeed, Mike Campbell's sweet slide guitar solo brought the sold-out crowd to its feet.

"Oh Well" - dedicated to its author Peter Green, "one of our British heroes" - was a rager, with Tom racing around the stages shaking maracas as the band roared.

Coming off stage after a phenomenal "Runnin' Down A Dream," Tom and the guys were all smiles, buzzing off the crowd energy in Royal Albert Hall and giddy after their debut in the landmark venue. By the time Steve Ferrone pounded out the last drumbeats of "American Girl," the room was ecstatic, giving Tom and the band a standing ovation and a fitting end to their first night at Royal Albert Hall.

My post about my experience of trying to get tickets on Tuesday has been removed. I was very angry, it was a farce. This time it worked much better and I have great seats (and some spare ones now for the 20th). Pity they couldn't have got it right first time. It isn't exactly rocket science. Try complaining to the livenation customer support if you want a laugh, their response brought tears to my eyes. It is going to be a great night out with my family who are all fans.

So I pay a lot of money to enable me to spend more money to get 'pre sale' tickets for me and my kids who have grown up listening to Tom standing up AGAINST this kind of thing...even though I've travelled to EVERY TP show in England since Knebworth..feel a bit 'HAD' now!!!! I'm willing to bet 'When money became king' isn't on the setlist! Disappointed!

after some pondering about cost against missing out on a ticket, i joined the fan club last night and got in at 9am for the pre-sale. Glad i did as the site seemd to crash later. Got a seat in the arena which i'm happy with even if it isn't right down the front.

Oh I can't wait. Tom Petty at the Albert Hall it's a dream come true. Saw TP&H in Vancouver many years ago and they were brilliant. Never thought I'd get the chance to see them in the UK. Brilliant.

I am so happy! Best tickets ever! Worth every penny! Looking forward to you Tom Petty & Heartbreakers!

Was worried after reading comments on UK presale, but got my tickets this morning with no problems, using my Fan club password. Saw TP at Wembley Arena in 1992 - so excited that I'm seeing them again.

I don't know whether the promoters and the management read the storm of complaints about the ticket sales for the 20th, but was the allocation for members better today for the show on the 18th? The sale started on Ticketmaster at 8.58 and I managed to get a pair at the front. A minor moan that on a working day, we will have to queue at the box office to collect the tickets rather than have them posted to us as normal, but I guess this was to deter the touts and resellers. All in all, TP's management have got to review how London was handled. If Ryan Adam's people can book two nights at the Palladium with confidence, then TP's people should have been more ambitious at the outset.

What a con! No presale tickets unless you join TP.com and add even more money to their coffers. Fuck U!!

A complete farce. No HCC code. No tickets for RAH. Very, very unhappy. My daughters, who are also big fans are also very very unhappy. A complete farce.

Done Sorted. Box office collection. That'll sort the fans from the pimps. Front row stalls. Nice one.

where the hell do i find my unique code its not on the tour page and not in any email i have recieved. i joined hcc ages ago hoping to get tickets for this date or 20th june but i now think it was a waste of money joining as i am going to have to take pot luck with general sales on friday

Just got my tickets for the Jun 18th gig - F-A-N-T-S-T-I-C!!! Now I know why I joined the HCC all those years ago!

I dreamed about TP last night, and I sort of knew I'd get a good seat this time (unlike my seat for the gig on June 20th, which is rubbish). Yep - stalls, block G! Mwah!

I still have not got my pre-sale number. Am a HCC member and life-long fan. Seen them every UK trip since Knebworth. Tickets for this had better come my way and NOT to the TOUTS. Anyone out there got any clues as to why my code not arrived yet! Still growling! GRRRRR!
