Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Live At The O2 Dear Tom, Please come around here some more. Eric Egan, 19 Jun 2012 Looking like an impish undertaker’s assistant from a Tim Burton film, Uncle Tom walks on, plugs in and lets the jingle jangle chime of his Rickenbacker ring out the first chords of ‘Listen To Her Heart’. The outlaw preacher, and covert punk is back on these shores after a 20-year hiatus. He delivers a heartfelt performance that at times achieved a state of grace. ‘You Wreck Me Baby’ has ‘oh ohs’ and ‘yeah yeahs’ supplied by the worshipping throng, ‘Free Fallin’ is dedicated to a group of Spanish fans met earlier that day, and ‘Learning To Fly’ is stark and vulnerable in its acoustic reworking. But this is no mere greatest hits laurel resting. Rarely played tracks are dusted off and brought blinking into the light. ‘Something Big’ off 1981’s Hard Promises is a highlight. Its rockabilly slouch, bayou bounce and Black Lodge solo emit a grinning gothic glow. Newer material off current album Mojo takes its place comfortably among the back catalogue hierarchy. ‘Good Enough’ has Mike Campbell spill ominous heart ache all over the fretboard whilst the sleazy honk of ‘I Should Have Known It’ is all shrugging shoulders and life lesson learnt. Benmont Tench’s swelling Hammond B3 introduces a storming version of ‘Refugee’ before the twin Firebird attack of ‘Running Down A Dream’ let’s Petty and Campbell spar on workin’ out a mystery and goin’ wherever it leads. A rapturous encore allows for a last dance with Mary Jane and wistful dreams of an ‘American Girl’ bringing a truly wonderous evening to a close. Dear Tom, Please come around here some more. Yours sincerely... Eric Egan

Thank you Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers for the best concert I have ever seen. Waited so long to see you and never thought it would happen. Got 2 2nd row Arena tickets at the RAH on Monday ! What a night. Think Tom and the band were genuinely overcome with the response from the audience. Thanks for making my wish come true. Please come back to the UK again soon. Any chance of a DVD of 2012 tour? Wish I could see you all again Wednesday but will be watching you at IOW on my TV. Can't wait

Just got back from seeing the best ever live band in the world! Thank you to Tom and the boys - you made 2 pensioners very happy as you have been together as long as we have been married and this is the first time we have ever seen you. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE arrange another tour in the UK - so many people were disappointed not to be able to buy tickets. I wanted 8 and only got 2 so there is a HUGE demand to see you guys again. Keep on Rocking in the Free World Thank you guys Awesome !!!!!

Hi there, Here's Uncut magazine's review of the Albert Hall show last night. Hope you enjoy reading it. Best wishes. http://www.uncut.co.uk/blog/the-view-from-here/tom-petty-royal-albert-ha...

Pity you didn't include the bit at the beginning of Free Fallin' where the Spanish fans did their football chant - it was hilarious. It was a wonderful gig but there was one sour note for me - the video shows people collecting their tickets at the box office, but we were not allowed to do this until the doors opened for everyone so even if you had been queuing for ages to be at the front, you lost time collecting your ticket and other people got to the stage before you. (This didn't happen at the Cork gig - the box office was in front of the gates and everything worked as it was supposed to!)

I was there ! The atmosphere was electric ! I have never been to a concert like it in my life but it was my first Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers show ! It was one of the best nights of my life I was so so happy and the time that they were on stage just flew ! I hope that Tom and The Heartbreakers realise now how we Europeans love them all and that they will come back as soon as they can ! I have one more concert to see them at The Royal Albert Hall in London on Wednesday ! I can't wait and if the show is anywhere near as good as Dublin it's going to be another wonderful night to remember as long as I live ! Thank you so much for coming to Europe I didn't think that I would ever get to see you live ! Much love to you all (especially Tom ) xxxxxx
