    Remembering JJ Cale

Losing JJ Cale is losing an American musical treasure.  Always under the radar, he has been, and will always be, a huge inspiration to me and the band.

Luckily, I had the pleasure of playing with him several times.  He was always gracious and treated me like a friend.

Whenever I listen to music, it is nearly always one of his records.  He had a gift for the sweetest groove, the sweetest guitar phrase, and the coolest lyrics- understated, but deep.  "I'm not a homeless man - I'm a gypsy by trade and I'm traveling this land" is one of my favorites.

His guitar tone and touch were magical in their simplicity.

I will miss him terribly, but I cherish all the music he left for us.

    Thanks, JJ, we love you.

I cherish his music, he was a sweet and precious artist and gentleman. Love love love, Boilin Pot and Too Much For Me from 5. All of 5 is awesome. Thanks for the memories!!! Would it not be a sweet tribute to JJ to do a couple of his songs on your new album? "The ways of a Motown woman are a mystery.....she keeps me hot like a Boilin' Pot, she whispers in my ear lets do it right here!" I am, celebrating the life of JJ! xox

I learned of JJ Cale through Eric Clapton. I loved his versions of "Cocaine" and "After Midnight". Then I got the albums and discovered who the writer really was and began a love affair with JJ. When I heard JJ do these two songs many years later....I have never felt the same about Eric's renditions. Those are truly JJ's songs and he sang them well. It is sad to see him leave us. But think of the music we will hear when we pass to the other side!!!!! Keep on pickin' JJ!!

Thanks for that Link Cathee , was so nice hearing that. Yeah JJ Cale was a brilliant Musician myself and friends partying every weekend in NZ in the mid 70,s  would listen to his music often, the biggy back then of course was Cocaine , but with many others as well. I never knew the song thirteen days , till Tom did it , and just heard it here , was awesome ! The great  singer/songwriter will be missed so much ,  RIP

I think I learned about JJ Cale via TP&HB covering his songs, and the fact that they gave him credit for composing the songs. Id been hearing JJ Cale's music performed by lots and lots of other artists prior to hearing TP&HB do it, but the JJ Cale connection never clicked for me until then.

At that point we got JJ's CDs and it just blew our minds how prolific and well known his music is even if JJ is a well kept secret.

Thanks TP&HB for 'letting the cat out of the bag' so to speak and turning this listener on to some truly amazing music. We might have never known to go see JJ play live had it not been for your love for his music and the covers that you play.
