Statement From Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers Regarding Last Night's Early Conclusion To The Concert At The Fonda Theatre In Los Angeles First and foremost, the safety of our fans is our primary concern and the most important consideration. To those fans who attended last night's show at the Fonda Theatre, we are as frustrated as you are! While we are still investigating exactly what happened we do know the following as of right now: 1) The number of tickets sold was NOT above the legal capacity of the building. The venue and Ticketmaster documentation confirms this. 2) The Fire Marshal

June 6, 2013 Fonda Theatre, Los Angeles, CA On tours like these (and especially when playing intimate venues like the Beacon and Fonda), there are moments that happen every night that go undocumented but hopefully not unnoticed. One of those moments happened Thursday night. Shortly after Tom and Mike arrived at the Fonda Thursday night, the whole band huddled in a backstage dressing room underneath the old Hollywood theatre to discuss the setlist. Inside a narrow rectangular room lined with vanity mirrors, Tom looked over setlists from the previous nights as Scott and Mike looked on.

June 4, 2013 Los Angeles, CA "You just missed Phil Jackson." Tom smiled widely standing in the front lounge of his tour bus, the kind of perma-grin all true Lakers fans have upon meeting the legendary basketball coach that brought five championship trophies to Tinsel Town. Eleven Rings, Jackson's new book, lay on a nearby table, autographed to Tom by the Zen Master.  Whether Jackson's vist influenced the night's performance or not, no one will ever really know, but Tom and the guys seemed especially strong on Tuesday night, the second show of this West Coast residency at the Fonda.

The Fonda Theatre, Los Angeles, CA June 3, 2013   --   "Hollywood!"   Tom Petty stretched out his arms to embrace the avalanche of adoration that cascaded down onstage from the 1,200 fans jam-packed into the Fonda Theatre last night for the opening night of the Heartbreakers' six-night residency at the old Tinsel Town haunt.   Monday night's show continued Tom's stated goal for the New York and Los Angeles residencies: to dig into the band's catalog while at the same time playing a few choice covers as a tip of the hat to their heroes.

"Steely Dan has 26 sold-out shows here, huh? Looks like we have some work to do, Wayne." Tom smiled slyly at Wayne Williams (Benmont Tench's long-time tech who also works with Donald Fagen and Walter Becker) as he examined the plaque commemorating the duo's long association with the Beacon. It's a few minutes before Tom and the band take the stage for the final night of their five-night run at the Upper West Side theatre, and the mood backstage is loose.

The fourth night of the Beacon residency began as all the previous nights have, exploding out of the gates to raucous cheers with "So You Want To Be A Rock & Roll Star."  As Rolling Stone rock critic David Fricke commented in one of his extensive reviews of the first few Beacon shows, The Byrds cover has evolved night in and night out, especially Mike Campbell's guitar solo, which went from bouncy at the beginning of the week to a note-bending mind warp by Saturday. Saturday saw Tom and the guys' first stab at Into The Great Wide Open with a stellar "Two Gunslingers," along with selections

"Hey Tom, why not make this an annual thing?!" The belted fan suggestion between "Night Watchman" and "Good Enough" elicited a huge cheer among fans in the first few rows, an approving point from Benmont Tench and smiles across the stage at the Beacon Theatre Thursday night, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers' third night of this weeklong residency at one of New York's legendary rooms. In a way, the heckler couldn't be more right.
