June 28, 2013 Marcus Amphitheater, Milwaukee, WI   Rain, wind and some unseasonably cooler weather threatened to damper Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' triumphant return to SummerFest, the band's first trip back to Milwaukee since the 2010 Mojo tour.   Stronger heads ultimately prevailed as the storm blew over and gave way to a thunderous, two-hour rock show. "I Won't Back Down" brought the crowd to its feet, "Here Comes My Girl"  got 'em singing and "Mary Jane's Last Dance" got 'em moving, but it was "Woman in Love (It's Not Me)" - the second single off Hard Promises - where the moment

June 23, 2013 Saratoga Performing Arts Center, Saratoga Springs, NY   Coming off a huge headlining performance Saturday night at the Firefly Music Festival, Tom and the guys didn't step off the gas Sunday at the Saratoga Springs Performing Arts Center, rocking thousands of Heartbreakers fans at a venue that's been a staple on the band's summer tours for more than three decades.   "Saratoga Springs, it's good to see you!" Tom said after "Love Is A Long Road," waving to the packed amphitheater. "I hope you don't have any plans to go anywhere, 'cause we're ready to go!"   Mike Campbell tore into

June 22, 2013 Firefly Music Festival, Dover, DE   The Firefly Music Festival - held on four stages over three days at the 87-acre Woodlands of Dover International Speedway in Dover, Delaware - is a relatively young festival in just its second year but has amassed an impressive lineup for its 2013 edition.   Red Hot Chili Peppers headlined the festival on Friday night and Foster the People was slated for Sunday, leaving Tom and the band atop Saturday night's bill with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Alabama Shakes, Jim James and Japandroids preceding them with great sets on the Main Stage.   The band's

June 20, 2013 Consol Energy Center, Pittsburgh, PA   "Melinda" - a track released only on 2009's Live Anthology box set - has quickly become a favorite on the 2013 summer tour.    A slow-burning cowboy love ballad, "Melinda" begins with Tom alone, just his voice and acoustic guitar.    "When I get four hundred dollars I'm going to see Melinda Because I've been working, I've been saving for a ticket to Melinda And I just don't care what you have to say Because I'm getting up in the morning And I'm off the see Melinda"   On Thursday night in Pittsburgh, Mike Campbell trickled in on mandolin

June 18, 2013 Budweiser Gardens, London, ONT   Canadians love Tom Petty, and Tuesday night's show at London, Ontario's Budweiser Gardens was proof positive.   All day long, fans lingered outside the arena's backstage gate, waiting for a glimpse of Tom and the band and hoping for an autograph or picture. Nearby bars and restaurants blasted Heartbreakers' music as fans gathered to meet friends in anticipation of the show. Even the local record shop - Grooves - sold out of all of Tom's music on any format, save for an original copy of the Traveling Wilburys' first record.   Taking the stage just

June 16, 2013 Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, Manchester, TN   The Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival is in its twelfth year, and the 2013 edition - headlined by Paul McCartney, Jack Johnson (pinch-hitting for a last-minute cancellation from Mumford & Sons) and Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers – may represent the best lineup ever assembled by the folks at Superfly and AC Entertainment.   Sunday on the What Stage opened up with a tight set by Lee Field and the Expressions, another in Daptone Records' stable of incredible artists, before giving way to sets from Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Kendrick Lamar,

June 15, 2013 Klipsch Music Center - Noblesville, IN   By population standards, 25,000 people might be considered a big town or a small city, but when the same amount of people stretching back as far as you can see all stand up at the exact same time and erupt in screams and cheers, it sucks all the oxygen out of the space and literally takes your breath away.   That’s what it felt like standing on the lip of the stage Saturday night at the Klipsch Music Center outside Indianapolis when the house lights dropped and Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers returned for the first time since 2010.   The

June 11, 2013 Fonda Theatre, Los Angeles, CA   Connor Enright stood in the alley way behind the Fonda Theatre Tuesday night, displaying no signs of nervousness despite the fact that the 12-year-old Arizona resident was a few minutes from meeting a hero.   The young man and his father, Jason, had driven to Los Angeles from Phoenix to attend the final night of the Heartbreakers' six-show Fonda residency and present Tom with a guitar they built together.   Stepping onto the tour bus, Connor smiled widely as Tom appeared and welcomed him onboard.

June 9, 2013 Fonda Theatre, Los Angeles, CA   "Well....what should we play now?"   Tom tapped through his guitar pedals, a smile creeping across his bearded face as he prepped for the next song. It wasn't as if Sunday night's show was lacking anything to that point. "Honey Bee" stormed in early in the set, bringing along with it a smokin' version of J.J. Cale's "Thirteen Days" that seemed to pair perfectly with the epic blues rocker "Good Enough." Hearing "House in the Woods" is pretty rare, but getting "Walls" - the single off She's the One - in the same night almost never happens.
