“You don’t want to shake my hand today.”
Benmont Tench pulled some Kleenex out from his jacket pocket and wiped his runny nose.
Being sick on the road is no fun. There’s no place to hide, no rest for the weary and no bowl of Mom’s chicken soup to help you feel better. It just stinks.
But something magical happens at show time when the lights go down and the band walks onstage.

“He plays everything for us, and we can’t leave home without him,” Tom said on Sunday night in Canandaigua, NY during band introductions. “Ladies and gentlemen, Scott Thurston!”

Everyone wants to play there; and Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers are no different.

Arroyo Seco Weekend 2017

Pasadena, CA

June 24, 2017

Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers kicked off the third leg of their 40th Anniversary tour at the inaugural Arroyo Seco Weekend festival in Pasadena, CA.

In the shadow of the fabled Rose Bowl stadium, Tom and the guys headlined after sets from Alabama Shakes, Dawes, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, The Meters and many more.

“Into The Great Wide Open” made its tour debut, an apropos choice considering Arroyo Seco was the first Southern California show of the tour.

Before the show, Tom and the band huddled in the dressing room, running through
